Tam McManus believes that Rangers need to sign a striker with Cyriel Dessers appearing to be on his way out either in January or the summer.
The Nigeria international has fallen down the pecking order at Ibrox and has been linked with an exit. [Soccernet.ng, 20 December].
Gers are understood to be keen on a striker in the January transfer window and are considering a move for Mamelodi Sundowns forward Iqraam Rayners.
McManus told PLZ Soccer on 3 January at 25:03: “I think they definitely need a striker. Igamane’s a work in progress for me. I don’t think he had a great game yesterday. He was in and out of the game. Dessers, I think he’s on his way out either in January or end of the season.”
Rangers need to sign a striker in January
If Rayners is the man Gers want, then they have to go out and do everything they can to secure his services.
However, it’s important that they consider the immediate impact that the striker can have and whether or not he’ll be an upgrade on their current options.
Signing another bench player will not make any sense as they need players who can strengthen the first team.
Apart from a new striker, another defender is also needed at Ibrox and Nils Koppen has to be working overtime to bring in players through the door.
Philippe Clement appears to be staying put for now and he would want to see his side strengthened if they are to have some chance of challenging for the title.
The recent win against Celtic surely is a huge boost but there’s still plenty of work left to be done.
In other Rangers news, Spanish giants have shown “significant interest” in securing the services of a first-team Gers player.
