Former Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie has suffered the heartbreak of bringing his season to a premature end after deciding to undergo surgery to resolve a persistent groin injury.
Ryan Christie has been ruled out for the rest of the season after the Scotland international decided to go under the knife early.
The 30-year-old has chosen to fast-track his groin surgery after being left out of the matchday squad for the 2-2 Premier League draw against West Ham at the weekend.
The former Celtic ace has not completed a full 90 minutes in any of his last nine appearances due to the ongoing issue.
Prior to his injury woes, Christie was a key figure in helping The Cherries to chase European football for the first time in their history.
Being such an integral player, he was still picked for Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad to face Greece in the Nations League.
But racking up the minutes has taken its toll with the midfielder announcing on Instagram that the road to recovery starts now after all but confirming he will have his operation early.
Boss Andoni Iraola confirmed his star man would likely need to go under the knife before the end of the current campaign.
Speaking recently, the Spaniard said: “Ryan’s situation is worrying because he has been dealing with a groin issue, the pubis, the abductor, a little bit of everything since the beginning of the season.
“He’s so honest and he wants to push, even with pain he has been playing, and he’s played very well for a lot of time.
“I think it’s a moment where his body is telling him that maybe it’s time.
“We are trying to go with him until the end of the season but, against Brighton, there were moments where he felt he couldn’t anymore.
