Four Sporting CP Players Ruben Amorim Could Bring to Manchester United
Manchester United are gearing up for an active summer transfer window, with several new signings expected.
The club is prioritizing a top-class striker due to inconsistent attacking performances this season. Current forwards Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have only managed six Premier League goals combined.
With defenders Victor Lindelöf and Jonny Evans out of contract in June, a new centre-back is also on the agenda. Lisandro Martínez remains sidelined with a serious knee injury and may not return until late 2025.
United could also be in the market for a versatile winger and a defensive midfielder.
If Ruben Amorim is appointed as manager, here are four Sporting CP players he may look to bring with him
1. Viktor Gyökeres
The Swedish striker has been in sensational form, scoring 52 goals and providing 12 assists in just 48 games this season. He thrived in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system and could be available for around £60 million. Amorim has downplayed a reunion unless United qualify for the Champions League, which could still happen through a Europa League win.
2. Francisco Trincão
Once seen as a flop at Barcelona, Trincão has revitalized his career at Sporting. The 25-year-old has notched 9 goals and 18 assists, showing versatility by playing across the frontline. With Antony likely to leave, Trincão—who has a £51 million release clause—could be an option, though a move is less likely if United go for Wolves’ Matheus Cunha instead
3. Gonçalo Inácio
Previously linked with United before Lisandro Martínez’s arrival, Inácio could now be back on the club’s radar. The 23-year-old is a composed, left-footed centre-back with a 90% passing accuracy and strong aerial presence. He too has a £51 million release clause, and Amorim may value a reunion with the Portuguese international.
4. Morten Hjulmand
The Danish midfielder has quietly developed into a key figure at Sporting, even becoming club captain. With 91% pass accuracy and solid defensive stats (six recoveries and nearly two tackles per game), he would bring much-needed stability to United’s midfield. Sporting may accept an offer below his £68 million clause, but a transfer could depend on Casemiro’s future at the clu
