Sam Lammers Faces Uncertain Future at Rangers Amid Transfer Dilemmas

Rangers‘ promising start in the transfer window has hit a snag recently. Philippe Clement, the team’s manager, faces the challenging task of balancing squad improvements with financial constraints. With limited options to offload players, one notable player finding himself back at Ibrox is Sam Lammers.

Sam Lammers: A Return to Rangers

Sam Lammers, who joined Rangers from Atalanta for £3m, initially struggled to make an impact. However, his successful loan spell in the Eredivisie, where he scored ten goals and provided three assists in 18 appearances for Utrecht, sparked interest from clubs in his native Netherlands. Despite this, Lammers’ high wage demands have hindered a permanent move back home, leaving him in a precarious position at Rangers.

Training with the B Team

Lammers has missed the last two weeks of pre-season training with the senior squad and has been relegated to training with the B team at Auchenhowie. His first appearance of the new campaign came in a short-notice fixture against Leeds United Under-21s, where he failed to score despite a few opportunities.

Philippe Clement’s Dilemma

Speaking recently, Clement acknowledged the complexities of the transfer window and the need to work with the existing squad. He stated, “It’s not a point now to rate the window. The one thing I have learned is to work hard, work hard with the players who are there, and you never know how fast things go. You are not in control of that.”

Clement emphasized the unpredictable nature of transfers, especially in years with major tournaments like the World Cup or Euros. “We have been really busy already with watching a lot of players. Already we have done really good things for the future of the club,” he added.

Lammers’ Role at Rangers

Clement has not publicly commented on Lammers’ future at Rangers. The Dutch forward’s exclusion from pre-season training and speculation surrounding his departure suggest that Clement anticipated his exit. In the Eredivisie, Lammers thrived in a more advanced role compared to his number 10 position at Rangers. If he remains with the club, Clement might consider deploying him similarly.

Uncertain Times Ahead

As the transfer window progresses, Sam Lammers’ future at Rangers remains uncertain. Clement’s pragmatic approach to squad management underscores the challenges faced by the club. Whether Lammers can reclaim a spot in the first team or will continue to be sidelined is a question only time will answer.
