Sam Lammers axed to Rangers reserves amid latest Ibrox exit talk

Rangers striker Sam Lammers has been dropped to the club’s B team line-up for a friendly contest against Leeds United Under-21s, as published by Rangers Youth Updates.

The unofficial youth team coverage page posted on X [16 July] to confirm Lammers was involved with the second-string squad for the pre-season meeting on Tuesday afternoon, starting up top for the Light Blues as they were beaten 1-0.

The axe of the 27-year-old forward is notable due to the intense speculation linking him with a permanent move away from the club [Scottish Sun].

Lammers could be about to leave Rangers

The banishment of Lammers to the Rangers B squad in pre-season may give a signal that he is not part of Philippe Clement’s plans this coming season.

With the club well underway in a squad rebuilding mission and plenty of attacking targets being mooted, it could be time for the Dutchman to cut ties and bid farewell to Ibrox.

AZ Alkmaar have been heavily linked with the striker of late – who was signed by Michael Beale but has since made just 17 league appearances in blue – but that move may be off the table amid signs he could be “running out of options”.

Lammers, who cost the Gers over £3.5m last year, clearly showed he is more settled in his football back in the Eredivisie, scoring 10 goals in 18 matches on loan at Utrecht in the second half of last season.

New recruit Hamza Igamane is set to push Lammers even further down the pecking order which could be the catalyst for a permanent departure from Scotland.
