Pitcher Options To Minor Leagues After Disastrous Start For Dodgers

Following his worst start of the season where he gave up nine earned runs in only four innings, starting pitcher Bobby Miller was optioned to the minor leagues.

The Dodgers used Miller’s roster spot to recall Ricky Vanasco.

The Philadelphia Phillies knocked Miller around for 10 hits on Tuesday, and former Dodger Trea Turner crushed a grand slam that put the game out of reach.

“I have some work to do,” Miller said after the game, via The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya. “Stuff just doesn’t have enough bite to it right now.”

Little has gone right for Miller all year. After his incredible first start of the year where he struck out 11 batters in six innings, Miller has a 10.17 ERA in six games.

Miller also missed 10 weeks due to shoulder inflammation. Miller has said he feels healthy since coming off the injured list, but the results have not shown that.

Currently, there is no indication on what level of the minor leagues Miller was optioned to. The Dodgers also have yet to say whether or not Miller will make a start in the minors or if this move was to give him extra rest through the All-Star break.

Miller’s option to the minors comes at a time when Los Angeles’ starting rotation is thin, especially after Tyler Glasnow landed on the 15-day injured list. The Dodgers now have 10 pitchers on their injured list.
