The summer has been tumultuous for Philippe Clement as he prepares Rangers for the new season. Despite the club’s official announcement addressing the Ibrox situation, the squad has yet to see any departures that fans might celebrate. Clement faces a daunting task, but he remains unfazed by the frustrations of the support.

Philippe Clement Remains Optimistic Despite Transfer Challenges

Key players like Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers are still with the club, despite interest from other teams. Both players performed well last season, attracting bids that could have allowed Clement to bring in his own choices. Yet, there’s no sign of their departure.

Similarly, Kieran Dowell and Tom Lawrence, who spent significant time injured, remain part of the squad. Lawrence has some reported interest, but nothing substantial has materialized. These issues are not of Clement’s making, and he’s taking steps to rectify the injury problems behind the scenes.

Speaking after a friendly defeat to Ajax, Clement reminded fans that rebuilding the squad isn’t as straightforward as it might seem. He stated:

“Everybody who is here is part of my plans. Otherwise, they would not be here. Fans think it’s like PlayStation or Football Manager where you can just sell a player you don’t like. It doesn’t work that way. These guys have contracts. Every player falls into that category. If somebody comes with £30 million or £40 million, you can replace him for that money. We will see.”

Clement’s Resilience and Vision

Last season, Philippe Clement nearly worked miracles. He guided Rangers to silverware and topped a Europa League group with La Liga opposition, despite missing several key players like Oscar Cortes, Abdallah Sima, Todd Cantwell, and Danilo. These injuries significantly impacted the Scottish Premiership title race.

Clement’s efforts to get Rangers back into contention were remarkable, given the team’s state when Michael Beale was sacked. This summer, if no players leave, keeping the best players fit becomes even more crucial.

In reality, there are likely ten players Clement would prefer to move on to free up cash. However, as he notes, it’s not that simple. This transfer window might go down to the wire, and fans should brace for a potentially bumpy ride.
