Philippe Clement future in doubt at Rangers as hands are tied over transfer window signings

Philippe Clement is looking after himself by revealing the reality of the situation at Rangers and it would be no surprise if he left, says Derek Ferguson.

The Belgian came out to admit that he has to sell in order to buy this summer [Rangers Review, 13 July] amid a frustrating lack of signings, and recently made a point of highlighting Todd Cantwell’s requests to leave [Sky Sports, 25 July].

Keith Jackson has suggested that Clement might not stick around to address the presesason deficiencies in his squad in the Daily Record on 22 July, and Ferguson admits that anything is possible when it comes to the manager’s future in light of the current transfer situation.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “Anything’s possible concerning Rangers and certainly concerning the manager.

“He’s come out over the last couple of weeks and I think he’s just been honest

Sometimes you’ve got to keep things behind closed doors but he’s been put in a position where his hands are tied in terms of bringing players in.

“So there comes a point where you’ve got to look after yourself, and he’s looking after himself in terms of the honesty, he’s coming out and saying it the way it is.

The way things are at the moment nothing would surprise me.”
