Chris Jack has admitted he has been unable to find out too much about Rangers’ interest in Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri.

Reports suggest that the Light Blues are in talks over an initial loan deal for the versatile midfielder which would see him make the move to Glasgow ahead of the end of the transfer window [TEAMtalk, 30 July].

United are understood to be eager to sell Mejbri permanently [Fabrizio Romano, 7 August] but Rangers Review journalist Jack has admitted his sources have kept incredibly quiet during the transfer speculation.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (8 August, 8:20) he said: “It’s one I’ve asked on a couple of times and not really got that far on it unfortunately.

“That can either mean there’s definitely something in it and people don’t want to tell you, or there’s nothing in it and they just can’t be bothered coming back and saying no because there’s been a lot of names doing the rounds over the course of the summer.

So it’s not one that we’re any further on. It was perhaps a fortnight ago that this one came out, asked about it then and didn’t get any further and over the last week or so transfers haven’t really been on the agenda.”

Will Hannibal Mejbri exit Manchester United amid Rangers transfer rumours?

Rangers could do with an added bit of bite in the middle of the park before the end of the summer transfer window, as it is clear Philippe Clement’s side are missing a player in the Barry Ferguson mould.

Undoubtedly, Mejbri would provide exactly that. He may not have played much at Manchester United over the last few seasons, but he is known for his battling style and combative presence in the middle of the pitch

If the Light Blues can agree a deal with United to bring him to the blue side of Glasgow, he would be an excellent addition to Clement’s ranks. But the silence around this deal from sources close to Ibrox is very obvious.
