In last weekend’s derby match between Rangers and Celtic, the man was seen holding a mobile phone in the air with the number 66 visible on the screen.
This symbolises the number of Rangers fans who died in the Ibrox disaster after a stadium crush at a derby game with Celtic on January 2, 1971.
The supporter was then seen showing the number six twice with his fingers.
Per STV, he has since been suspended from attending future matches.
A Celtic spokesperson said [STV]: “We have investigated the matter. Clearly we condemn such conduct and the club has taken the appropriate action with regards to this individual.”
The incident was also condemned by Rangers at the weekend: “The Ibrox disaster remains the darkest day in our club’s history and continues to affect a number of families to this day,” a spokesperson said.
“The mocking and celebration of any tragedy is abhorrent, and has no place in any football stadium or society as a whole.”
Rangers return to action this weekend when they welcome Aberdeen to Govan for their penultimate home match of the season.
