As the summer transfer window looms, another rebuild is on the horizon at Ibrox.
Gio van Bronckhorst, Michael Beale and Philippe Clement have all squandered millions in recent years and paid the price with their jobs. Now, as the moneymen behind the San Francisco 49ers-backed takeover prepare to sweep into power at Rangers, fans will hope better recruitment will bring the glory days back to Govan.Interim boss Barry Ferguson is the man steering the ship at the minute, and triumphs over Celtic and Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce have bolstered his case to land his dream job full-time.
Yet whether it’s the club legend or another man at the helm next season, one of the biggest priorities will be clearing out the alarming amount of deadwood currently on the books. Here, Record Sport picks out eight forgotten men who will be up for the chop this summer.
Neraysho Kasanwirjo
The versatile Dutch defender has been out of action since undergoing surgery on a nightmare knee injury back in November. Gers have the option to buy the 23-year-old from Feyenoord this summer but haven’t seen enough of him to shell out a fee.The 22-year-old stopper was the club’s only January arrival and has racked up just 71 minutes of game time. On loan from LOSC Lille, Fernandes’ only start so far came in the humiliating Scottish Cup exit to Queen’s Park and he hasn’t played a second under Fergie. It’d be a major surprise if Rangers were to trigger a permanent move.Jose Cifuentes
Remember him? The man Michael Beale claimed would take Rangers to the “next level”? Well, recent reports in Greece have suggested that Gers will miss out on a £4million windfall as Aris Thessaloniki shy away from a permanent deal. Still under contract until 2027, the midfielder has been deemed surplus to requirements at Ibrox and is certain to be offloaded one way or another.
